The Family Meal is a traditional pre-work gathering for staff and leadership in the industry to eat and download about personal and technical notes of service. The hospitality industry is in a transformative stage in this city and nationally. However, so few people in power are discussing the issues that affect entry-level workers and even less are openly processing how we could create solutions. The show focuses on changing that trajectory through guest interviews, roundtables, and the occasional debate. Unfortunately, so many restaurants and hotels no longer provide a family meal for their staff. The dissolution of this simple practice is just one example of how the industry has become more focused on transactions than its community members. Hospitality can be extended by anyone and in a city built off the backs of hospitality workers, it should be.
